We are starting our new school year on September 11th, and as usual, we start with CASAS testing so that we can properly place all students into the right classes. I will be there on Thursday, September 13th, helping out, and I can't wait to see you all again. :)
This year is filled with all kinds of new and exciting changes. First of all, we will have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays as usual, but the times are a little different. We will have class from 10:00-1:30 instead of our old times. We encourage everyone to bring a lunch to eat during the break between first and second blocks. Next, we will have a computer lab and do Burlington English and more every Thursday in the Advanced class! I am personally very excited about this!
On Thursdays, we will spend the first block on reading and textbook work. After our lunch break, we will head to the computer lab and work on Burlington English as well as our new blogs! Every student will set up a blog in which to write about learning English and what you covered in Burlington English that week (what you have learned, what you still have questions about, what you need to work on). This is a great way to practice those English writing skills as well as see what other students are doing. We will have a chance to read each other's blogs, too.
This year, I am also working on getting us books to read together as a class. We will end up spending a good bit of the first block talking about and writing about our class novel. This should help our reading levels improve more quickly and give you the chance to learn more about American history and culture.
I can't wait to start! This year is going to be amazing!
